i) List the media language (mise-en-scene, editing, cinematography etc) that constructs meaning in the scene

  • starts off with the camera being obstructed by the wall and creeping round
  • positions the audience as an intruder within the house, anchored by the scary music from the film, building suspense

ii) Identify the preferred reading and the dominant ideology of the scene (eg. "a deliberately confusing and distressing ideology that positions the audience uncomfortably")

  • the beginning is deliberately suspenseful and stressful as the source of the suspenseful music is not immediately identified. this makes the audience question

iii) Identify the possible negotiated readings and the oppositional reading - how is the audience being positioned?

  • the audience is positioned as an intruder within the house
